Current research efforts
I am working on an ESRC-funded project called ‘Profiting from science’, which involves the creation of a new database of UK AI new ventures and their engagement with the science base, and how those engagements shape the ventures, with Stefano Baruffaldi and Federico Bignone.
I recently completed two reports funded by the Innovation and Research Caucus and developed in collaboration with Innovate UK: Examining the Innovation Funding Lifecycle, on the effect of R&D grants on UK AI new ventures, with Federico Bignone and Stefano Baruffaldi, and Rebuilding the Assessment System: An Account from Inside Innovate UK, a test of Innovate UK’s new assessment questions, with Rossella Salandra.
I have a number of other ongoing projects, including with Cochrane (Rossella Salandra and Paola Criscuolo) on whether lay translations change the attention scientific papers receive, and with Bart Leten (KU Leuven) and Mathias Boënne (Utrecht) on hierarchy and idea selection.
